Description of the work

In the painting "In Between," expressive color blends with finely crafted, realistic anatomy. The gorilla—an icon of animal dignity and power—is depicted in a pensive pose that appears strikingly human. His deep-set, gleaming eyes seem not only to observe, but also to reflect.

The color palette, ranging from violet and cobalt blue to glowing orange-red tones, elevates the image into a surreal, almost dreamlike sphere. The background remains open, diffuse, like a color space between memory and vision.

The work questions the boundaries between human and animal, between instinct and intelligence, between observer and observed. The gorilla becomes a mirror—of its counterpart, of nature, and perhaps even of the artist herself.

The deliberately used contrasts and the almost iconographic staging evoke associations with images of saints—but in a secular, ecologically permeated context. Thus, the animal becomes the bearer of a new narrative: a dream of equality, dignity, and connection.
