Description of the work
In "Waxing Moon," Jen Weissenbacher once again returns to one of her central motifs: the moon as a symbol of change, cycles, and cosmic presence. The surface is modeled with texture paste – a decisive intervention that takes the work beyond pure imagery.
Through this relief-like design, the moon emerges from the canvas not only visually but also physically. Light and shadow refract on the crater landscape, creating a vibrant interplay of depth that lends the surface an almost sculptural vibrancy.
The structure reveals what normally remains hidden. The dark area of the moon – the part that is normally hidden from us during this lunar phase – is made tangible by the tactile surface. The shadows of the craters point to a depth revealed not by light, but by form.
In this way, the invisible becomes tangible – as an aesthetic experience and as a metaphor. It is an invitation to look beyond appearances, to sense the hidden, and to recognize the substance of what is becoming.
“Waxing Moon” is not just a representation of the celestial body, but a reflection on perception, time and growth.
